Pskov is full of interesting sights.

Pskov is full of interesting sights. Most of them are located near our hotel. Today we will talk about the picturesque church of St. Basil the Great (on Gorka) - an architectural monument of the 15th – 16th centuries.

The hill on which the temple is located used to represent an island in the middle of a swamp. At the foot of the hill a small creek of the Pupil flowed.

The first construction of the Church of St. Basil the Great (on Gorka) dates back to 1337. Merchant Christopher Karel, a German by birth, is considered the founder of the church. In Pskov, he was baptized under the name of Basil and built a stone church in the name of Basil the Great.

XVII and XIX centuries - the period of deprivation of the church: attempts to destroy, the loss of ancient utensils and, finally, its closure. During the Great Patriotic War, only the northern limit of the church was damaged by bombing. Nowadays, after numerous arsons of 2002, the temple has stood its ground again and now flaunts with its splendor and decoration.

The temple is open daily from 8.00 to 19.00 hours.
