Pogankin Chambers in Pskov

The hotel complex Old Estate continues to acquaint its subscribers and guests with the wonderful sights of Pskov, which are located near our hotel. Today we will talk about the famous Pogankin chambers.

The monument of medieval Russian architecture with the not the most enticing name of the Pogankinsky Chamber in Pskov dates back to the late 17th century. They were built by order of the merchant Sergei Pogankin, from whose surname they got their name. According to the customer’s plan, the chambers were to become a universal structure: inside there were residential premises, outbuildings, warehouses and guild shops. Today, the Pogankinsky Chambers are part of the Pskov Architectural Museum-Reserve and are open to visitors all year round.

The main museum complex includes a central building with an exposition “The Pskov Region during the Great Patriotic War”, the famous Pogankinsky Chambers, the Mason House and an art gallery with a collection of Russian and Western European paintings of the 18-20 centuries, as well as several other departments.
