Today we’ll tell you about the most stately and grandiose object in the Pskov region - the monument “Battle of the Ice”.
The Battle of Ice Monument is dedicated to the victory of Russian troops under the command of Alexander Nevsky over German knights on the ice of Lake Peipsi in 1242. Authors: sculptor I.I. Kozlovsky, architect P.S. Butenko. The height of the monument is 29.9 meters. It is located on Sokolikha Mountain, from where a magnificent panorama of the whole city of Pskov opens.
The monument is directed towards Lake Peipsi, where the battle took place. Ahead on the horse is Prince Alexander Nevsky, followed by a reliable squad with flying banners. Here, artisans, craftsmen - everything whose work and feat led to the victory so significant for the Russian state that stopped the Crusade to Russia.
