Snetogorsky monastery - an object worthy of the attention of an inquisitive tourist.

The attraction is 3.5 km from the historic city center, on the right bank of the Great River. This is one of the oldest existing Pskov monasteries, and the first mention in the annals dates back to the 13th century.

The temple got its name because of its location on Snetnaya (Shotnaya) mountain, which in turn is called in honor of the famous smelt fish. Previously, a small fish was found in abundance in the river.

In the Middle Ages, the monastery was an important spiritual center of the Pskov region. It is not surprising that it was in it that one of the first stone churches of the post-Mongol period was built, which has survived to this day - the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin of the XIV century, where unique ancient frescoes were partially preserved.

Now the monastery has been transferred to the church, and the Nativity Cathedral has been restored. On the ennobled territory, the church of Nicholas the Wonderworker of the 16th century was preserved, and in the 21st century the temple of Joasaph Snetogorsky was built.
